In the first class of New Media Research Methodologies, we were asked to come up with a definition for New Media. This is what I came up with:
New media is constantly changing, as it is never a concrete thing. Any form of communicating or displaying content through a digital realm is considered new media. This can include something broad such as the internet as a whole or something much more small scale such as an Instagram photo. Another great example of new media can be video games.
After that, we were asked to go into groups of 4 and create a definition that encompassed everyone’s definition. Here is what we came up with:
New media is constantly changing, as it is never a concrete thing. It is always evolving to meet what society needs or wants. It is also modern form of art because it wasn’t really classified in the past. Currently new media revolves around pop culture such as social media, film and photography, video games and even popular brands such as apple. This may be the definition today, but it can easily change tomorrow or the next.
